adaobi (1)

adaobi is lifeless.
on a cold september night of 96' he sits and smokes his favorite Henson and Benz at mama obi's bar just along the town square.

it is raining heavily, the kind of rain that made him wonder who had enraged Chukwu.
he daren't go home to his wife this late. the bitch would rave on and nag about his irresponsibility and stupidity. not that he minded his wife's insults. he himself knew how irresponsible and stupid he was. irresponsible enough to impregnate ada in the first place and stupid enough to have thought of telling his wife of the latest development...
nwosu was an unfortunate man. wrong things men in his age group did flawlessly, nwosu's chi made sure he paid dearly for in ten fold. other men had external affairs with women outside their marriages but the one time he tried, he got the beautiful adaobi pregnant. adaobi the girl young enough to be his first son's agemate. and somehow his chi's punishment came with a blessing because the young beautiful adaobi loved him dearly. it was his eyes she said, they were so sad and piteous...

need balance

there's some beauty in darkness:
something interesting about
the way the air would heavily light
an irony of perfect juxtaposition. there's some beauty in ugly:
something intriguing about the
huge grotesque scars that
seem to never want to go away. there's some beauty in evil:
un peu de la purité in
the heart of a condemned man,
an innocence buried beneath a blanket of
bottled up emotions. these little beauties we
choose to neglect
aren't they the very things that
make living bearable? who would be good without the existence
of evil?
who would be beautiful without ugliness?
or what story could ever be told without scars? need beauty and ugliness,
need scars and healing oils,
need good and evil,
need all the balance to remain
steady and sane in this
crazy crazy world. need balance:
then imbalance to
balance the human equation
now and again.
